Top Five Favorite Remakes

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 29, 2012, 10:37 AM

Hello everyone, Gatlinggundemon9 here with a new Top 5!! Now, MOST of the times remakes suck. Horribly. BUT, there are, amazingly enough, a few good remakes. And I'm going to list my PERSONAL favorites below, now, to clarify,  I MIGHT not have seen the original film before I saw the remake, but I'll let you know below. BTW, I'm gonna mainly lean towards the horror genre in this, mainly due to it being Halloween.

#5: Thir13en Ghosts (2001)

A remake of the 1960 film 13 Ghosts, my only major complaint with the film is that THERE ARE ONLY TWELVE EVIL GHOSTS. But other than that, the designs of the ghosts are really cool. My personal favorite is the Hammer, though everyone seems to like the Jackel. BTW, never saw the original.

#4: The Mummy (1959)

My Personal favorite film out of Hammer studios that I'v seen so far. (I have yet to watch Horror of Dracula), this film was better than the original IMO.

#3: King Kong (2005)

A very good remake of one of the greatest films ever made, Peter Jackson took everything great about the original, and added a buttload of good stuff.^^

#2: The Thing (1982)

Where do I BEGIN with this? This may be the greatest remake ever, by most people standards. I haven't seen the original yet, but I'm sure the remake is superior, if only for the nice & gory special effects. Plus, Kurt Russel was awesome in the film, and the ending leaves you with a feeling of fear.

#1: Frankenweenie (2012)

Yes, this film is actually a remake of a short live action film Tim Burton did in 1984, which was life action, less than an hour long, and a film that caused Burton to be fired by Disney. But this film is GREAT!!! It has all the best Tim Burton elements, as well as several references to classic movie monsters, like Gamera, the Wolf man, and the Gremlins.^^

Well, that was my personal choices for-<<machete is thrown at me> What the hell!?

<in front of me are the remake versions of Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees>

Me: ... oh <bleep>

Freddy: KILL HIM FOR NOT PUTTING OUR FILMS ON THE LIST!!

Me: OH <bleep>!!<runs off while they give chase>

Very well-made list, man! I've never actually seen the 1959 Mummy film, but I have seen the one with Brendan Fraser in it, and it was pretty awesome. The Mummy Returns was also good, but Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was lackluster. Peter Jackson is an amazing director, and what he did with the King Kong remake was just spectacular. I SERIOUSLY cannot wait for "The Hobbit" to come out.
I have yet to see "Frankenweenie," but I'll definitely see it eventually, probably when it comes out on DVD.
Speaking of movies, "Wreck-It Ralph" comes out this Friday! Are you excited?

Hey, speaking of halloween remakes, have you ever heard of this horror film called Carrie? Well, they're doing a 2013 remake of it... just found out about this at Comic Con. Here's a description... [link](2013_film)

I dunno, any thoughts? Personally, I'm not sure if it's really my thing or not...

I believe it will suck, as 98% of remakes always do, accept for very few.

But that's just my opinion, it might be a good remake, like Dredd was.

That may be true. Though I must admit I never actually saw the Dredd remake... ^^;
